Getting started on Yogi's VPS: First week checklist
Welcome to Yogi's VPS. This first week checklist walks you through the exact steps that turn your new account into a stable, secure, and fast WordPress stack.
You do not need to be a server expert. We handle the heavy lifting. Your job is to review access details, send us what we need, and complete a few simple checks.
What we do for you automatically
- Spin up your account on our optimized VPS stack.
- Install or migrate your WordPress site as agreed.
- Configure basic caching, PHP version, and HTTPS.
- Set up daily backups with off server storage.
- Enable security hardening and firewall rules.
What we need from you in week one
- Confirm your domain name and registrar login if DNS changes are needed.
- Share WordPress admin access if we are onboarding an existing site.
- Tell us about your stack: theme, key plugins, ecommerce or membership tools.
- Approve any DNS or email changes before we go live.
Day 1: Find everything and confirm your details
On day 1 we want you fully logged in and confident about where things live. Most issues later come from missing logins or unclear ownership, so we lock this in first.
- Open your Yogi's VPS welcome email and save it in a safe folder or password manager.
- Log in to your hosting portal and confirm you see your site or cPanel account listed.
- Confirm the primary contact email for alerts, invoices, and support requests.
- Add support@yogisvps.com (or your support alias) to your email safe sender list.
Day 2 to 3: Point your domain and lock in HTTPS
Once access is confirmed we connect your domain to Yogi's VPS and make sure visitors always land on a secure, working version of your site.
Checklist: DNS and domain setup
- Decide how you want to connect: change nameservers or update only the A record.
- Share registrar access or DNS screenshots so we can create the correct records for you.
- Confirm which domain is primary: with www or without www.
- Schedule the DNS cutover for a time that is low traffic for your business when possible.
Checklist: HTTPS and email basics
- Ask us to confirm that a free SSL certificate is installed and auto renewing.
- Verify that http and non www URLs redirect cleanly to your primary https URL.
- If you use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or another provider, confirm MX records are correct after DNS changes.
- Send a test email from your domain and confirm it does not go to spam.
Day 3 to 4: WordPress health check and performance baseline
With your domain pointed and SSL in place we make sure your WordPress stack is stable, updated, and ready for performance work.
Checklist: Updates and security
- Review a quick update report for WordPress core, themes, and plugins.
- Approve any major version updates that might affect your theme or ecommerce setup.
- Confirm that a security plugin or firewall layer is active where needed.
- Remove unused plugins and themes that are no longer part of your stack.
Checklist: Performance baseline
- Run PageSpeed Insights on your home page and one key landing or product page.
- Save the scores and Core Web Vitals metrics so we have a "before" snapshot.
- Confirm that caching is enabled on the server and in WordPress if we are using a caching plugin.
- Note any obvious slow elements like heavy sliders, large hero videos, or long third party script lists.
Day 5 to 7: Confirm backups and plan your next 30 days
The final part of week one is about safety and strategy. You should be able to sleep at night knowing your site is backed up, monitored, and has a clear performance roadmap.
Checklist: Backups and uptime monitoring
- Confirm your backup schedule: how often, how long we keep copies, and where they are stored.
- Ask us to run a test restore on a staging or test domain if you want extra peace of mind.
- Verify that uptime monitoring is active and alerts go to the correct email or Slack channel.
- Document who on your team is responsible for contacting us if something goes wrong.
Checklist: First optimization sprint
- Identify the top 1 to 3 pages that matter most for your business: leads, sales, or bookings.
- Share your goals for those pages with us: faster load times, better conversions, cleaner UX.
- Schedule a quick call to review your baseline metrics and pick a small first optimization sprint.
- Decide whether you want ongoing maintenance only or additional performance and redesign work.
